The folk-trad duo Prairie Comeau, composed of Anique Granger and Benoit Archambault, announces the release of an EP entitled L’emprunt(e) volume 1 which will be released on March 22, 2024.
After five years of work rearranging songs that date back to before the 1960s, Prairie Comeau‘s approach is becoming clearer: it is the repertoire of La Bonne Chanson that speaks to her the most. Some of these pieces are so anchored in our collective unconscious that the possibilities of reinterpreting them (or even transforming them), without losing sight of their essence and familiarity, are immense. For Prairie Comeau, it is not only a natural and inspiring playground, it is a gold mine to be exploited! The result: song pairings, new colors, sometimes even new verses or new melodies. This EP also marks a musical shift for Prairie Comeau, who seeks to draw more deliberately on the colours of traditional music, the music of their roots, as well as on the influences of Americana folk. With the support of musician and director Nicolas Boulerice (Le Vent du Nord), Prairie Comeau traces its own unique path in this vast musical landscape.
